Licenced Professional Counsellor

Aileen Kim

I believe that there are times when we just get overwhelmed, or need a helping hand and there is no shame in that. Coming to counselling is about taking that first step for yourself, by yourself. We all have a reason for what we do and how we feel, be it negative or positive. Most of us want to be better, to improve from where we find ourselves in life and sometimes all it takes is to know someone is there to listen and walk beside us. I welcome diversity in my clients, and offer my services to you without prejudice.

I am a licensed Counsellor KB10534/PA10133 (Lembaga Kaunselor Malaysia) and completed my Masters in Professional Counselling, Monash University Malaysia. As a counsellor, I provide a safe space for you to speak when you feel you have none, to provide support and guidance while walking alongside you as you seek to achieve your goals through self-discovery of emotion, thought, and behaviour. I am also here to assist you in learning, and utilising skills to help you get where you want to be. My key areas of focus include working with clients with anxiety, depression, stress-related concerns, self-identity issues, interpersonal concerns and grief and loss.  I also conduct mental health screenings.  My experiences include providing individual therapy to adults and adolescents, and I also carry out psychoeducational workshops to larger target groups. Some workshops to highlight included Therapeutic Situational Play Therapy for Helping Profession & Psycho-Education, and Art Therapy Creative Coping Strategies for Helping Profession & Psycho-Education.  I am well versed in English, Malay, and Cantonese (casual).

My main approach follows the principles of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy with use of different techniques from other therapy modules dependent on what would suit you, my client, the best.  My being able to empathize while maintaining objectivity to analyse the situation fairly, combined with my clinical training, provides me the benefit of being able to understand issues from both its cognitive and emotional aspects. I am also a trained Taylor-Johnson Temperament Analysis (T-JTA) Administrator in which I use this instrument with both my individuals and couples clientele.

Our collaborative group structure allows each clinician to grow while also promoting long-standing commitment to our shared practice mission. Our team support and challenge each other to expand our perspectives and deepen our work.
